J.O. SIMS LTD

J.O. Sims Ltd is the largest producer and supplier of cherries in the UK. Due to Brexit and restricted availability of workers, the client decided to automate its packaging and sorting processes, which involved investing in 4 production lines made up of equipment from different suppliers.

  • What were the challenges?

    The primary challenge was to understand the production process and what the interactions between the various pieces of equipment should be. During the project, our company conducted a series of meetings with both client representatives and each of its suppliers. As a result, we were able to design a solution that met the client’s expectations. 

  • What did we do?

    As part of this project, we built 4 packing lines consisting of automatic Cherry Evolution weigh & fill from A&B Packing Equipment, checkweighers, labellers, and a conveyor system. Additionally, each line was equipped with MILBOR PMC’s proprietary control machine based on the SIEMENS system, which enabled integration with the existing sorting machines and traysealers. 

  • What was the outcome?

    Thanks to the equipment supplied by our company, the client significantly increased the work efficiency in its packhouse and reduced the number of workers. Additionally, thanks to the possibility of additional weight verification upstream of the traysealer, packaging losses were significantly reduced. Thanks to the control machines supplied by our company, the customer gained better control over the process, which also saves the operators’ time and optimizes their work.
