Fieldstone is a Polish family-owned soft fruit company. Since the establishment of the first, and currently the largest and most modern cranberry plantation in Europe, the company’s key value has been the high quality of the fruit and the development of this market segment in Poland and internationally. Currently, the producer’s offer includes blueberries, strawberries, raspberries and blackberries. Due to the continuous expansion of production and problems with finding qualified employees for specific positions, the client decided to automate the weighing and labelling processes for soft fruits.
What were the challenges?
Until now, the client did not have any system that simultaneously checked the weight of the containers, allowing for quality control of the fruit and a system reporting on production efficiency and employees. Until now, all the activities were performed without control, which required a large number of employees to work. The main challenge was to understand the process and the needs of the client, who wanted to optimise operations and be able to supervise the employees and their performance.
What did we do?
Due to the particular delicacy of soft fruits such as blackberries, raspberries or strawberries, and taking all the client’s needs into account, we provided a system of eight manual scales with software to control the weight of each individual package.
The solution, equipped with a light system, informs the employees of the amount of weight in a given container and reports on the performance of each workstation.
What was the result?
The provision of a comprehensive weighing system with software that generates information on the efficiency of the entire system and the accuracy of each employee has allowed the client to optimise the existing production process, significantly speed it up and reduce the number of employees. Thanks to the detailed data, the client can appropriately adjust the positions of employees according to their predispositions and speed up the process of checking the quality and weight in each container.
