Lines for dynamic weighing of fruits and vegetables

Dynamic lines for packs weighing, equipped with an automatic diverter, optimise the accuracy of packaging and improve the productivity of the packaging department staff. This solution combines the process automation with the care of delicate fruits quality. The possibility of the line connection with Libra is an additional advantage. This system was created for the optimisation of the packhouse efficiency and reduction of losses caused by overweighing.

What do you obtain due to a dynamic line for fruits and vegetables?

A lower risk of losses and errors

An automatic diverter connected with the control scales directs packs with fruits to different tracks, depending on the pack weight. Because of that the overweighed or underweighed packs go to different tracks, where employees change their weights manually.

Improvement in the personnel efficiency

Our system for work monitoring (Libra) improves the productivity (by even 30%), accuracy, and involvement of the packaging department employees. The dynamic system relieves the employees, who do not have to check the weight of all packages – those with a proper weight are transferred forward.

Higher productivity and accuracy of weighing

The division of work resulting from the application of different tracks allows the employees to focus on one task and due to that to work even faster and more precisely.

Better work ergonomics

The line was designed thinking about the employee’s convenience and safety. Individual elements form an ergonomic system, ensuring better working conditions.

Effective production planning

The dedicated software generates clear production reports. Because of the data you can effectively plan the next stages of operations and optimally allocate tasks to employees.

Faster changeover

The option of settings saving allows for substantial reduction of the time necessary for changeover of the entire production line for the next order’s execution.

Tailor-made infrastructure

We offer solutions adapted individually, which consider specific needs of the customer and packhouse infrastructure.

For planters and packaging companies, who care about high productivity and effectiveness of operations. The line for manual packaging with an automatic diverter is a perfect solution for businessmen pursuing the reduction of losses on overweighing.
The product was designed in view of expensive soft fruits packaging, which due to their delicate nature should be packed manually. In particular this includes strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, red currants, but also mushrooms, grapes, tomatoes on a branch, or fresh herbs. The dynamic system works well for products, which have previously been sorted in the field or in the greenhouse.
Our customers’ opinions show that the investment in a dynamic system is profitable at the production exceeding 150 tonnes of fruits in the season. At such a level of production the cost of investment may pay back already within two years.

Client's story: The Mariusz Chenczke Horticulture Farm

Chenczke logo linie dynamiczne
This family farm from the surroundings of Kalisz has been producing dessert strawberries since 2020. Products are prepared for sales in the local packaging shop and delivered to well-known retailer chains, both in Poland and in other European countries.
The customer has expected that the proposed solution will help him to reduce losses on strawberries overweighing, accelerate the work, and better manage the employees. The achievement of those goals could not have a negative impact on the fruits’ quality. In addition, the line had to be compatible with the control scales operating at the customer. The line was to ensure the production flexibility so that in the future the investor could enter new markets.
We have developed a dynamic line integrated with the software for production management – Libra. A diverter is a key element of the line, that is a separator, which directs the packages to three different paths, depending on their weight. Path one leads packages with a proper weight to the next stages (closing and labelling), path two leads underweighed packages, path three – overweighed. At the weighing stands employees manually adapt the packages weight and place the boxes on path one.
The dynamic line from Milbor PMC enabled the investor to triple its speed of packaging without compromising the fruits quality and also improved the production management. The monitoring of team members work allows for optimal directing the employees to tasks, which they perform best. As a result of division into three streams the customer has full control of the weight of packages weighed in the field. This allows avoiding losses due to overweighing. The system compatibility with various types of packaging allows flexibility in adapting to requirements of retailers in various countries.

What does the dynamic line consist of?

We choose the elements of a dynamic line according to the customer’s needs, due to which individual systems can substantially differ from each other. We can design a line, which will perfectly fit into the dimensions of the packaging department. An example of a dynamic line follows.

1

Gravity roller conveyors

A four-track roller conveyor transports boxes with packages of fruits collected in the field or in the greenhouse. Two conveyors transfer via gravity boxes with packages to the person, who places them on the line. The other two are arranged in the opposite direction and carry empty boxes.

2

Control scales

Automatic equipment checks the weight of packages packed in the field or in the greenhouse. The control scales show, which packages have a proper weight, which are underweighed, and which overweighed.

3

A three-track conveyor - diverter

The conveyor with the diverter linked with the control scales directs the packages into the right track. The packages of proper weight move by path A for further packaging. The underweighed packages are automatically directed to path B, where an employee manually adds fruits so that they would achieve an appropriate weight. The overweighed packages are directed to path C, where an employee takes fruits off, to avoid overweighing. After the manual adjustment all packages move by path A to the next stages.

4

Weighing stand

An ergonomic table with integrated scales, on which the employees optimise the weight of underweighed and overweighed packages. The light signals inform the employee about the product’s mass and facilitate the daily tasks.

5

Tray sealer

An automatic sealer is a piece of equipment designated for packs closing by means of a film layer. The topseal technology, which is increasingly winning approval in retailer chains, allows to reduce the cost related to the employment of staff for manual closing of packs with lids. The tray sealer is applied at various types of packages.

6

Labeller

The machine designated for automatic application of labels to closed packages with fruits. We offer equipment, which enable labels to be stuck on the top, bottom, or side of a package, and also a multi-head Tandem-type labeller.

7

Round receiving table

The last element of the dynamic line serves for convenient packing of closed packages ready for further transport. An ergonomic round shape of the table minimises the risk of standstills and facilitates access to packages from various sides.

Frequently asked questions

The price of a line heavily depends on its components. The cost of the investment project comprises prices of machines and the integration of equipment, and the software licence. Approximately, the prices ranges from 100 000 to 200 000 Euro. To find out more about pricing, we encourage to contact Milbor PMC expert to prepare the cost estimate of the line adapted to specific needs.
Milbor PMC has a team of qualified servicemen, available round-the-clock, also in the season. Our customers highly value a quick response time and the professionalism of technicians. Our own warehouse of spare parts enables us to quickly repair all the defects.
We have been specialising in the automation of production processes of fresh fruits since 2013. During that time, we have implemented more than 200 projects, which have improved the operations of planters and packaging companies in Europe and Morocco. Our own experience in growing the blueberry allows us to better understand the customer’s needs and to offer them the best adjusted solutions.
10 to 16 weeks pass from the moment of signing the contract to the line delivery to the customer. The time of completion can vary depending on the level of the project complexity, line size, and comprised machines.
It is possible to rent selected machines from the line, such as a labeller or tray sealer. It is worth discussing this option with the sales adviser.
Yes. Dimensions of certain machines, such as the labeller or tray sealer, are constant, but we manufacture the feeders ourselves, which allows us to control their size and shape. Because of that, we can flexibly adapt them to the space available at the customer.
Obviously. Within the implementation the packaging department staff are trained by us to operate specific machines and the software.
